It has been pointed out to me that the year range on the sign in page only goes up to 1992.
Are there any plans to change this?

You're probably referring to the join page and registration process. Go to the admin panel-> here: www.yoursite.com/admin/users/profile-questions and edit your Birthday profile question, you can choose the appropriate age range there.
