They said that they copied the friend request link from another account and then used the link while signed into the original account.

Which place exactly? Where is that friend request link, provide screenshot?

ok. Account 1 is your main account.
You log into a 2nd account and get the link that is attached to the Add Friend button on account 1's profile. (eg. sitename.com/friends/action/request/id/1/)
You then go back to Account 1, and copy that link into the address bar. It will register it as Account 1 has become friends with Account 1.
Does that make sense?

Yes, now it does, but when we copy the link in the address bar we just end up on the "friends" page
I'm sorry but we cannot reproduce the issue on our side.
Can you please pm me your Cpanel access details and admin site access details, I'll take a look at the issue.
