Hello,
Did a quick search for this in the forums and couldn't find anyone with the answer to my question so here I am.

I'm trying to find a way to have signup reject any entered birth dates that are under 18 years of age.

I do know how to set the maximum year to select on the question but unfortunately a person could have been born earlier or later in a year making them 17 instead of 18.

Example being:
Today is 06/17/2016
and to be 18 or older you'd need to have been born on 06/17/1998 or sooner. So you would set the minimum year to 1998 on signup. But then someone born on, say, 10/3/1998 signs up being 17 year of age.

I need a way to block it if it falls below the age limit of 18.

I hope my request makes sense and that someone will be able to help me. Thanks!

HI B.I.,  yes it is a normal thing for sites to need what you are asking.  There are several options.

First you can set up your splash page to let them know they have to be 18+ to enter the site.

At this time i am not aware of a plugin that will work for this on 1.8.3 but i will keep looking.  But you can try this https://ageverify.co/

I think they have an easy api you can use, if not let me know as i have never used it.

Alright :/ I guess the splash screen and moderating the heck out of my members will have to do for now.

I am not an attorney and i am not giving legal advice, for that please see an attorney. However just from my experience over the years, if you live in the USA your obligated to make a "reasonable effort" to keep underage out of adult sites.  So my thought is that as long as you have it in your TOS and also on the front page and make a "reasonable effort" i think you should be fine.

I would consider getting the abuse report plugin if it still works, and use it by having your other community members help you moderate.  They can report users they feel are underage or other activity not good for the site.

hope that helps

Marcus, a missing feature is not a bug, it is just a missing feature.  A bug is something in the existing code that either does not work at all (ie error) or does not work as expected as the developers intended it.
