Just wanted to let you know that this bug also affects unapproved members.

In other words, if your board requires user approval, Newsfeed will show "Birthday Notification of Unapproved site Member" even is user hasn't been approved yet!

Will this be fixed in 1.6?

This fix is planned to 1.6. But it is a complex one.  Part of the work has already been completed.
If no bugs will be found within the fix, it will be released with 1.6.

Why would it be complex?   Something like IF NOT approved happy member then GOTO point past where birthday thingie is.   

Of course it is one of the STUPIDEST things that anyone can do to publish their real DOB on social networking sites considering that is one of the questions banks etc ask you when you call.

Steve, it is complex mainly for 2 reasons:

1. fix should be done for unapproved, unverified and suspended users. So 3 groups of users.
2. fix should be done not only for birthdays, but also within other plugins as well: groups, events, instant chat. Generally within any plugin that uses user list.
