You can set privacy so only your friends can see your profile newsfeed,

I don't see any way to accomplish this with the current platform functionality. The privacy plugin is only for allowing viewing with the exception of blogs where you can disallow comments. I can see your desire in making your profile wall your own, and keeping it visible for others to read, but not add to it. Maybe one of the devs will pick up on this, and create a plugin with  expanded privacy features.
