I created the app and got the ID and secret code, but when I put them in the settings I get a "application set up failed - check your app id and secret"
can someone please guide me though setting this up or is there a different version of the plugin that is required?

What I had to do was remove my website from the server then setup everything that has to do with the website which is Domain name ftp server database server and the most important thig that pretty much gets everything to work together is cron once you have everything setup then load your server and run install and at the end delete the install folder and everything should work fine.
