you need cron to run many parts of your site and without this your site will not function you can relate this to a clock the cron winds the clock up and keeps it functioning and without it the gears will not turn

Guichard, this will in the first place effect "User online/offline" feature, instant chat, and mass mailing. Also CRON is needed for many other plugins to function properly.
