Is there a plugin, that send me a notification, if some of my friends posted a new content element like photo, forum-posting, etc?
that would motivate users more to revisit the page

in my personal dashboard I get a list of the postings of my friends or persons I am following (via 3rd party plugin)

yes its quite eazy simply hook to feed action event then check user id againts ur friends list if true creste trigger notification add event.

Get it. there is even an event called isFollow in the newsfeed plugin. :) Will try to hook it, thanks

bind to feed action event now inside function access event params grab userid use isfollow to check if user is a follower if so trigget notification add event to userId 1
