I get an error for missing DB tabe -ow_notifications_schedule' doesn't exist
I assume this is a table for the new version...
-Does it mean that restoring to the old version has not worked? how can I get over this issue?

you can do this one of several ways one being to deactivate notifications manually in the database,go to your admin area and click update db,and then go to plugins and click activate on the notifications this can be done with several plugins during updates.
the second option is to restore your old database you backed up and start over this time deactivate the plugins first
