Can you try by removing if you have added any custom javascripts or html codes in the homepage customization?

Can you share what was the actual issue, so that others might get a clue.

I was fumbling around with this issue for two days and found that when I disabled java script when on the "customize" page I was able to change things.

This happens when I have Advertisement plugin active .. as soon as its inactive, no problems
