Francois, users should receive email notifications that come with "Activity Notifications" plugin only if users have not loged in to your site for more then 2 days.
If they have loged in they should see real time notifications in the top right corner.
Your problem is that email notifications don't come even thought user was not on your site for more then 2 days?
