Parameters needed: Durable, water and weather-resistant, that cover the entire foot, and which are proof against being bitten by rats, snakes, and other nasties; preferably with velcro closures, not lacings, for ease of use, and wide. What do you all suggest? Preferably as low cost and inexpensive as possible.

I just wanna add that caterpillar is a brand that specializes in work boots, which might offer the protection you're looking for. I personally like them a lot

It's interesting to come across this thread even after four years. For durability and water resistance, brands like Timberland and Merrell come highly recommended. Both offer boots that cover the entire foot and have water-resistant properties. If you're concerned about critters like rats and snakes, you might want to go for something with a thicker sole and high-top design.
And if you're looking for cost-effectiveness, there are many online outlets where you can find these brands at discounted rates. One such site you might find useful is kickslounge.com. They offer a wide selection of brands and types, often at lower costs than retail stores. Remember, a good pair of shoes is an investment, so it might be worth stretching your budget a bit to get something that will really last and meet all your needs.
