One common issue that we are going to discuss in this article isQuickBooks Error Message H505. This issue occurs with a multi-user hosting setup. You may face it when attempting to access your QuickBooks file on a different computer that has specific issues with the installation setup. When a user tries to open a company file on a computer from a different computer this error appears on the computer screen.


What is QuickBooks error message H505?

Error code H505 in QuickBooks desktop comes into Hxxx series of errors (H101, H202, H203 and H505). All these errors mainly encounters when a user attempt to open company file in multi-user environment.



What are the causes of QuickBooks? error H505?

The major causes are:


1.      Network (ND) files are corrupted or damaged.


2.      Your system’s firewall or antivirus is blocking access to the computer where the company file is stored.


3.      QuickBooks failed to acquire the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the system where the company file is stored.


4.      When you try to open your company file stored on another computer that involves additional installation and setup for an appropriate approach resulting in Error Codes H101, H303, and H505.

Solution 1: Use the QuickBooks File Doctor Tool

Download and Run QuickBooks File Doctor:

Download and run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool from the official Intuit website.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install and use the tool.

Choose "Network Connectivity":

When prompted, select the "Network Connectivity" option.

Enter Admin Credentials:

Enter the admin username and password when prompted.

Wait for the Tool to Finish:

The tool will diagnose and repair network issues that may be causing the H505 error.


Solution 2: Verify Hosting Settings

Ensure QuickBooks Hosting is Enabled on the Server Computer:

Open QuickBooks on the computer where the company file is stored.

Go to "File" > "Utilities" and ensure that "Host Multi-User Access" is selected.

Disable Hosting on Workstations:

On other computers, where QuickBooks is installed but the company file is not stored, ensure that hosting is turned off.

Go to "File" > "Utilities" and unselect "Host Multi-User Access."
