I know it's not the answer. The answer is of course Jesus Christ. But I do have empathy for people who choose a"shortcut" to the truth. Saying "Yes' to God means hard work and diligence and self discipline, if we are to succeed. Oh and grace too, sorry. But drugs are tempting. That heavy weight, that crippling anxiety. It would gradually disappear after my 3rd or 4th beer. I used to use pseudoephedrine to clear my head. That helped with headaches. But I became addicted. Some of us. Well many of us are weak. Soft options are more attractive sometimes. Becoming a Christian can sound very uncool when you are young and want to maximise party-time pleasure. Sometimes we need a vacation from our minds. We need fresh insights. Fresh emotions. Fresh joy. Fresh air!

If you think I miss those party times, ................ you might be right. Funny you only remember the fun times, not the pain or the dull moments.

What wakes an addict up? For me, it was seeing role models like my older siblings success and happiness without any drugs. Early rises, getting into hobbies like my brother had horses. His passion. So find a healthy passion and get addicted to it. I became a gym junkie and started learning piano. The Daily discipline of practice became a kind of meditation. I improved so my motivation improved. I had the occasional beer but wasn't drinking till I dropped.
