After more research, it appears that it only happens in chrome. I have not seen it happen in Firefox.

So, when photos are uploaded and shown in the news feed, they appear "squished" together. What would I have done to cause that? The first one appears open because I hovered my mouse over in until it opened up...

Mike, I have tested in "Crayon" theme in Chrome (Version 23.0.1271.95) and photos were displayed ok.
Which theme and version of Chrome do you use?

Mike, this might be a theme issue since I have checked in this version of Chrome (on Windows) in of one of the themes designed by us and images displayed correctly.
Try switching to another theme ( for example, Origin) and checking once more. If everything is ok in "Origin" then it is definitely a theme problem.
