Do people spend more when using a credit/debit card than they would if they had to pay using cash? Why?

Basic psychology. If you have the cash in your hand, you're much more aware of how much you're spending and where its going. When you use a card its a more abstract thing.

For me, the method of payment doesn't necessarily dictate my spending habits. I typically use cards for their convenience, but I'm mindful of my budget regardless of the payment method.
