Just a FYI for folks.  If you have an older residential grade alarm system with a cellular primary or backup, you may want to initiate a test call to your alarm monitoring service.  A popular cellular backup device used 3G networks, now being shutdown this year.

I noticed my cell backup device flashed red, and sure enough no longer online.  No notice from the alarm company.

Not a huge deal. I'm overdue for a home security overhaul.  Going down the Ring Alarm / camera route.  No Telco landline needed and comes with a cellular backup option to internet.

I've personally just invested in cellular backup to the internet connection itself.   I'm using a Cradlepoint so that if I can't reach the internet through Fios, it will automatically route the request via the cellular

Thanks for the heads up! It's crazy how tech moves, right? I had a similar situation with my old alarm system a while back. One day, it just stopped working, and like you, no heads up from the company. Ended up switching to a more modern setup too. Funny enough, I was debating between a few options, and stumbled upon this cool site talking about security guards. Got me thinking about the whole security setup differently.
