Social media is obviously where it's at still. It's noted in plenty of places that it's helpful to create your own fan pages on these platforms and then have your members join/follow there too. Okay, cool, but...you're driving traffic to the other, already-big-name sites...driving traffic AWAY from your site and encouraging members to stick to those social media sites instead of revisiting yours. No good. I stopped posting my social media accounts for my site awhile back. I do maintain them but I don't promote them out as an "extension" of the site or anything because then people stop coming to the actual site. I think this is going to help a ton though because I can implement what's going on with the FB page onto my actual site without driving people to leave the site and go to FB directly. It seems to do what I thought it did. Display my feed very easily and logically. Members seem to like it so far, as it's helped start a couple of conversations in the chat room. I like it, I think it's good and useful for most social sites.
