I began to translate this script to my language (Arabic) But I found that it is not possible to register using Arabic Letters .
How can this problem be solved as it is an important feature for Arabic users.
We are looking forward supporting this script for Arabic users.

here is the site

What an actual problem you have during registration on Arabic language?

If you use Arabic letters you get an error says:
enter a valid username

thank you

Got it. Currently it is impossible to use non-latin letters for usernames. Because system uses profile's username for profile's url

Because you have made a bad design of Oxwall

You must ofcourse use userId numbers for profiles URL
which eliminates limitation of user names to latin characters ie A-Z only

We can't use Oxwall in our community becasue of this limitation
and it's true for all countries with characters
not included in the very limited latin character set

Oxwall can't support an international community I have said this before

You have implemented UTF-8 to support all local characters
You allow for language translations to support foreign languages

BUT the user name MUST be an US name limited to characters A-Z

This used to happen 30 years ago in the IT industry too before Internet
but now we have the year 2011 and a global world

With this limitation you exclude the usage of Oxwall in all countries using
Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian etc and Greek languages and most European countries

Thank you for your opinion Veronica. We will think about it.

Do you want my users to avoid registration with user names containing our 3 local characters åäö ?
If I do register with a local character in my name I can't see my profile in Oxwall
until you have fixed this I will not go online with Oxwall

Your "solution" is not addressing the discussed problem Bob

Today we have a working login to our community with local character support
and email login is not a valid user login option 2011 in an updated community

They don't have a Facebook connect

If I login with email address there is still links with user names that will not work
as the link anyway looks like this for member lookup if local characeters in their name

http://mydomain/user/Seri%C3%B6s

which will fail with an error 404 Page not found

Oxwall is still a young social network site install. They will not please everyone all of the time. It is currently probably the best free social site software pack out there.
There will be errors. There will be mistakes. Hijacking a bug post AFTER an explaination is a bit wrong. Also Bob made an alternative idea. Called a workaround.
I am sure there was no mal-intent with the design in limiting to "US?" names.
Forums, especially bug reports are there for the assistance in a user's problem, not a soapbox. Your point is valid and yes should be addressed but in the right manner.

A "quick & dirty" solution for this:

File: ow_core\request.php

Function: public function getRequestUri()

Line from:

$this->uri = UTIL_Url::getRealRequestUri(OW::getRouter()->getBaseUrl(), $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);

Line to:

$this->uri = UTIL_Url::getRealRequestUri(OW::getRouter()->getBaseUrl(), rawurldecode($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']));

Quick and dirty ?

Sounds no good ? or is this is a safe and good solution on this issue?

Thanks
