Hello. I am not sure if this is an issue with the script or something on my end, but when I type in my site nikly.com into google search it doesn't come up. When I type it with http://nikly.com it shows up just fine. I would assume the http shouldn't matter though?

That's odd why its not showing for me. Thanks a lot though.
Purusothaman Ramanujam
It did not show up for me too. I got results for Nokly.com only.

But there was a link which said "search for nikly.com".

Some questions:

1) Do you have sitemap for your site?
2) Have your submitted your sitemap to search engines?
3) Have any robots file modified?

Yeah that's odd.. I do have all 3 yes. sitemap is .xml format and robots.txt is

User-agent: *
Disallow:
Disallow: /cgi-bin/

I also find it kind of odd that it shows up as
online nikon community - nikly.com and not
nikly.com - online nikon community
as in the oxwall page settings its set up as
Site name - Nikly.com
Description - Online Nikon Community

Have you submitted your sitemaps to google via webmasters tool?

James, I think that "http" part is not really the cause.
I believe that "www" is. So when you search just by nikly.com ( you search without www and without http). When you search by http://nikly.com, google adds www into this URL automatically). This is just my assumption. Just a guess.

Did you do anything in terms of SEO regarding your site with and without "www"?

Also might be that things start to work properly after some time when changes are apply on all servers and we will see what Abbey sees as well. Just need to wait.

Regarding site title, I will check with developers and will get back to you shortly.

Purusothaman Ramanujam
I don't think that should be the reason Aliia. With or wihtout http and www, your domain should show up.

Honestly I don't have a reasonable explanation. Only guesses. When it comes to how search engine works it all seems to be covered by mistery.

Might not be Jame's fault at all.
Google offers nokly.com, may be just because it has a strong SEO behind, and ranks higher, that is why search is done by nokly.com first. And if this that is not what user is looking for he can click on "Search instead for nikly.com".

Out of interest, I have tested in yahoo.com. Same happened, but instead of nokly, yahoo searched for another site ( that probably is ranked higher in yahoo) and just like in google it offered "Search instead for nikly.com".

Probably search engines "think" that you are mistyping the URL.
Purusothaman Ramanujam
Yeah. I am with you on this. How search engines work is still a mystery to me.

I feel that Jame has not submitted his sitemap to search engines. that would help him to have this site crawled by search bots.

I have 9 years seo experience and have my sites top of google for there terms.

The reason why you are having this issue is there arent many sites talking about your site so google doesnt really know about it. What you need to do is to get google to recognise your website without showing the "Did you mean..." part appearing. Its pretty simple to achieve this, all you need to do is start posting your url in places that will be crawled by google.

Until google recognises that nikly.com is a name/brand you will have this issue, post your website on twitter a few times, normally content scrappers pick up stuff from there so one post could mean 5+ links. Submit your website to as many social bookmarking sites as you can as this will make a big difference.

If you need any further advice please feel free to drop me a message.

Sounds like a good tip :) Oxwall needs a good seo plugin.

Its not the on-site seo that needs improving in this case, its more to do with off-site seo.

I have just noticed on Nikly.com that you dont mention your website name in readable text i.e not an image, this will be another cause. Its not necessary to mention your website name in plain text but google will crawl your website, read it and assign more weight to that term.
