with profile cove enabled i get a blank image when posting a profile link into newsfeed or chat
disable it and all is good

News Feed grabs all images from the posted page. This blank image is the first image. You can choose other image for the link:

the plugin needs something in it to tell newsfeed and chat to grab the right image
users should not have to chose unlees they dont want the first image shown
a blank image is just no good and in chat theres no option to chose image

if this can not be fixed it makes the plugin useless to me as i do not want broken images all around my site

It is not the plugin's bug. It is bug of link content grabbing system. It should not take an image that's less than minimum size.
I fixed the issue in my Attachments plugin.
I will add this issue to Oxwall Core road map. It will be fixed in the future Oxwall Core updates.
