poster's avatar replaced by avatar who liked | Forum

Even my subject line is confusing.
I'm new. Hi.
If I post something to newsfeed, it shows my avatar above said post.
If someone "likes" or comments on my post, their avatar replaces my avatar, above my original post. It looks confusing. If I "like" the last ten posts, then my avatar is the only one on the whole page. yuk.

Is this common? Or maybe its common only to the [new] "origin" theme? I'm new. Its the standard theme, stock installed as soon as you install oxwall.

Bobby, this is not common. Screen shot of how this should have looked like is bellow:

Can you give your site URL and usernames/passwords we can use to reproduce  this issue?
Bobby
Bobby Feb 12 '13
Sure. And thank you. It's not very exciting. I'm using it to communicate with my mom and dad. There are only 4 users and I closed registration.
I have Oxwall running at: pirate.harmoncabin.com

I'm not sure if you need my admin name and password?

Please note: the "pirate" in pirate.harmoncabin.com has absolutely nothing to do with software, music, movies, etc. (we call our weekend house up north "Pirate Cabin).
As you'll see, we're fairly boring :)

Thank you, again! And I know you'll need some time. I hope it is some simple oversight on my part.
My host is "top hat hosting" http://www.tophat-hosting.com/ and I have the "Business Plan."
Anything else I can do?

Aliia, I share Bobby's view.
Hope you can do something about it.

bobby our site has been the same, it has been like it for a few months, even when wall.fm hosted it it was this way

I'm glad I raised the issue :)
I always do a lot of searching before I post. I don't want to be redundant. I couldn't find anything on the matter. So, at the risk of seeming "silly," I posted this topic.
Hopefully Aliia can help. Hopefully it's just a needed correction to one of the PHP files. I'm capable of editing script, if someone gives me something to copy and paste.

Any news on this?
I'm not rushing or demanding. I'm just worried it was forgotten. Maybe I should have posted this in "Bug Reports?"
Just curious if this is being looked into - even if its something to be addressed in future updates.
Oh, I was also going to change my [Dooey] tester password if that is no longer needed.
And I can PM with Admin sign in, if needed.

Bobby, I was able to reproduce this finally. I just had to refresh the page after commenting or liking.

This happens because newsfeed disaplays action. So if  user AAA commented on user BBB's status newsfeed shows:

{UserAAA's avatar} has commented on {userBBB's} status.
{status here}

Which is logical, since it would have been even more confusing if User BBB's avatar would have been displayed even though userAAA is the one who is commenting.

Aliia I find this answer unacceptable! Nah, I'm just messin' with ya. I see what you're saying and now that you mention it, it is logical. It's logical but t's driving me crazy :) because I'm what they call "a visual person."
I spent ten years learning the gobblety-guk of HTML and PHP on the same page so I could make things the way I wanted them, aesthetically. Now I find oxwall and I love it. But all the gobblety-guk is spread out - into 1 to 10 lines of code - in what seems like a thousand different pages. It makes me wonder if it can be any more efficient than it was, putting a whole bunch of code on one page.
I'm sure it is more efficient. Much more so. It's just making me feel like an out-dated old man. Alas, I suppose I am an old man, these days. It's going to be frustratingly hard to teach this old dog new tricks.
Well. Like I said. I really like oxwall. If it takes me another ten years, I'm gonna figure out how to manipulate this - now that you've pointed out the logic - what am I wanting, anyway? I dunno. Hmmmmmm. Yeah. I think - the user AAA avatar, directly above the user BBB avatar, and then the original post, followed by comments. I betcha I figure this out, someday. Maybe years :)

Thank you, Aliia. You are a kind person and I appreciate your time and thought on this matter.
I apologize for getting a little jumpy on this - I was imagining a 13 year-old using my tester name and pass to go put porn in my newsfeed.
I WAS new here :)
I'm getting used to being here, now.
Next time, with your permission, I will PM you my sign-in info.

Thank you, Aliia!

user A posts "this is a status msg" directly to newsfeed

Newsfeed shows

user A avatar | user A | "this is a status msg"

Now user B likes this

REFRESH PAGE

Newsfeed shows

User B avatar | User B liked user A's status "this is a status" msg

This may be logical, but what is * expected * is

Newsfeed should show

user A avatar | user A | "this is a status msg"
user B (and xothers) likes this

OMG! This is serious bug - was it there in previous versions? Unless this
is patched very very immediately we cannot proceed at all

...not bug but the design of newsfeed...

The scenario: user A posts "this is a status msg" directly to newsfeed
Quote from risha This may be logical, but what is * expected * is Newsfeed should show user A avatar | user A | "this is a status msg" user B (and xothers) likes this OMG! This is serious bug - was it there in previous versions? Unless this is patched very very immediately we cannot proceed at all

You will see what you expected
in the "A" profile newsfeed:
user A avatar |
"this is the "A" status msg"
user B (and xothers) likes this

in the "B" profile newsfeed:
User B avatar | User B Name | liked user A's status | "A" User name
"this is the "A"  status" msg
user B (and xothers) likes this

That is the design...

This is not on disign (only my idea):

when
B look at   the newsfeed:
YOU liked user A's status | A username
"this is the "A" status msg"
(and xothers) likes this

when A look at  the newsfeed:
B liked YOURs status
"this is the "A" status msg"
(and xothers) likes this

but this design has been taken over by the notification system

Hi Agree with Risha...it's possible to have only the situation before "Refresh"?

Completely edited:
I found a way to not have your avatar replaced by the avatar of people who "like" your post.
But in doing this, you are also NOT notified, in your notifications box, when someone "likes" your post.
So... I decided to delete my solution as it could cause more trouble than it is worth.
I give up.

@ Bobby - Can you kindly post your solution or PM it please? This is urgent.

If same person keeps on liking say ten post the newsfeed becomes a mess - nothing can be more mess than this. ( I am surprised that Oxwall devs are not responsive to this)

I need that solution desparately to decide whether to proceed with Oxwall.

@ Unique below : I have posted http://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall/suggestions/3682393-do-not-replace-poster-s-avatar-by-avatar-who-like
