How to grant an user access to one group but not another?

Perhaps I'm missing the point, but I can't figure out how to grant an individual user access to one particular group. The way things are configured by default is that when you grant an user role access to groups, all users with that role have access to all groups. Does anyone know how to grant users access to specific groups? More
